GAIL second quarter PAT at Rs. 713 crore Turnover at Rs. 6,202 crore

New Delhi, October 28, 2009:-GAIL (India) Limited registered a turnover (net of Excise Duty) of Rs. 6,202 crore in the second quarter of FY 2009-10, against a turnover of Rs. 6,129 crore in the corresponding period during the last financial year. GAIL’s Net Profit for the second quarter of the FY 2009-10 was Rs. 713 crore against Rs. 1023 crore in the corresponding period previous year. The Gross Margin was Rs. 1,187 crore in the second quarter of the current financial year against Rs. 1,661 crore in the corresponding period last year. The Profit Before Tax was Rs. 1027 crore in the second quarter of the current financial year against Rs. 1503 crore in the corresponding period last year.

Segment-wise Revenue
During the second quarter of the current financial year, revenues from Natural Gas Transmission business have increased by 39 percent to Rs. 843 crore as against Rs. 606 crore in the corresponding period of previous year. The revenues from Petrochemicals business were Rs. 616 crore as against Rs. 627 crore in the corresponding period of last year. The revenues from LPG and Liquid Hydrocarbons business during the second quarter of the current financial year were Rs. 515 crore as against Rs. 1065 crore in the corresponding period of last year. The revenues from Natural Gas Trading during the second quarter of the current financial year increased by 11 percent to Rs. 4969 crore as against Rs.4484 crore in the corresponding period of the last year. The revenues from LPG transmission during the second quarter of the current financial year have increased by 14 percent to Rs. 103 crore as against Rs. 90 crore in the corresponding period last year.

The decrease in net profit during the second quarter of the current financial year even after increase in turnover was mainly due to lower production and lower price realization of Polymers & Liquid Hydrocarbons. GAIL has shared Rs 459 crore towards LPG and Kerosene subsidy in the second quarter of the current financial year as compared to Rs 401 crore during the corresponding previous year quarter.

Physical Performance
During the second quarter of the current financial year, the Natural Gas sales were 81.05 MMSCMD, up 3 percent from 79.06 MMSCMD during the corresponding period last year. During the second quarter of FY 2009-10, the petrochemical production was 102 TMT, against 104 TMT in the corresponding period last year. The polymer sales during the second quarter of the current financial year were 89 TMT, increased by 17 percent from 76 TMT in the corresponding period in the previous year. The LPG transmission during the second quarter of the current financial year was 728 TMT, up by 12 percent from 650 TMT during the corresponding period in the previous financial year. The LPG and Other Liquid Hydrocarbon production during the second quarter of the current financial year was 377 TMT, up 5 percent from 360 TMT in the corresponding period last year. The LPG and Other Liquid Hydrocarbon sales during the second quarter of the current financial year were 379 TMT, up 5 percent from 361 TMT in the corresponding period last year. The Natural Gas transmission during the second quarter of the current financial year was 106.58 MMSCMD, increased by 30 percent from 81.69 MMSCMD in the corresponding period last year.

Half Yearly Results
GAIL (India) Limited registered a turnover (net of Excise Duty) of Rs. 12,224 crore in the first half of FY 2009-10, a 3 percent increase over the turnover in the corresponding period during the last financial year. GAIL’s Net Profit after tax for the first half of the FY 2009-10 against Rs. 1,369 crore against Rs. 1920 crore in the corresponding period previous year. The Gross Margin was Rs. 2,332 crore in the first half of the current financial year against Rs. 3,175 crore in the corresponding period last year. The Profit Before Tax was Rs. 2,014 crore in the second quarter of the current financial year against Rs. 2,855 crore in the corresponding period last year.

Segment-wise Revenue
During the first half of the current financial year, revenues from Natural Gas Transmission have increased by 29 percent to Rs. 1,576 crore as against Rs. 1,222 crore in the corresponding period the previous year. The revenues from Petrochemicals business were Rs. 1,238 crore as against Rs. 1,428 crore in the corresponding period of last year. The revenues from LPG and Liquid Hydrocarbons business during the first half of the current financial year were Rs. 1,199 crore as against Rs. 1,864 crore in the corresponding period of last year. The revenues from LPG transmission during the first half of the current financial year have increased by 19 percent to Rs. 209 crore as against Rs. 175 crore in the corresponding period last year. The revenues from Natural Gas Trading during the first half of the current financial year increased by 12 percent to Rs. 9,611 crore as against Rs. 8,602 crore in the corresponding period of the last year.

Physical Performance
The Natural Gas transmission during the first half of the current financial year was 101.66 MMSCMD, up 22 percent from 83.08 MMSCMD in the corresponding period last year. The Natural Gas sales during the first half of FY 2009-10 were 80.50 MMSCMD against 79.43 MMSCMD during the corresponding period last year. During the first half of the current financial year, petrochemical production was 196 TMT against 209 TMT in the corresponding period last year. The petrochemical sales during the first half of the current financial year were 180 TMT against 179 TMT in the corresponding period in the previous year. The LPG transmission during the first half of the current financial year was 1,469 TMT, up by 16 percent from 1,266 TMT during the corresponding period in the previous financial year. The LPG and Other Liquid Hydrocarbon production during the first half of the current financial year were 711 TMT, increased by 1 percent from 702 TMT in the corresponding period last year. The LPG and Other Liquid Hydrocarbon sales during the first half of the current financial year were 713 TMT against 707 TMT in the corresponding period last year.
